The role of the Advice Columnist is to identify a problem or conflict that one of the characters is dealing with in the chapters you just read. It can be an open conflict with another person or a conflict within a character.
1. Write a letter in the role of a character to "Dear Abby" explaining your problem and how you feel about it.
2. Give accurate background information and a complete description of the problem Background information - Events that led to or proceeded the situation.
3. On the back side of your handout, write "Dear Abby's" response to your character. Include ideas about how the character can solve the conflict. You can use a template in your Literature Circles duotang or a word processor to complete your role. Submit your assignment on TEAMS in your book channel.
SUCCESS CRITERIA 1. It is clear what problem a character is dealing with and background information is given 2. Dear Abby's Reply offers a realistic solution 3. Each letter is at least 7-8 sentences long 4. Writing contains correct spelling, grammar and punctuation

1. Put extra detail into your writing
2. Use strong vocabulary (Triple scoop words)
3. Think of new ways to present your work. E.g., a diary, letter that is kept in a scrapbook
